When designing a space it's
helpful to have some sort of concept to build off of. The concept
doesn't have to complicated or even articulated into words. In most
cases a simple concept is best; just an idea to use as a jumping off
point and an guide to what belongs in the design and what should be
edited out. One way to conceptualize a space is to start with a
photograph, object, fabric, or piece of art. The goal is not to "match"
the inspiration piece but more to just choose something visual that you
can pull colors, textures, and patterns from. Instead of choosing a
single visual inspiration piece some designers create "mood boards" or
collages of ideas and products that work together. I design by using a
little bit of both techniques. This is a little sneak peek into my
design process to begin the post series "Mood Board Mondays." Enjoy!
